Northwestern University professor Kate Masur will discuss her recent book, Freedom Was in Sight! A Graphic History of Reconstruction in the Washington, D.C., Region (University of North Carolina Press, 2024). Gorgeously illustrated by award-winning artist Liz Clarke, the book delivers a compelling, accessible history of one of this nation’s most volatile and widely misunderstood eras. Masur will discuss that history, as well the collaborative processes that made the book possible.
